Every successful journey begins with a clear destination. For leaders, that destination is the vision we set for our clubs, our district, and our communities. Like railroad tracks stretching toward the horizon, leadership gives us a path to follow and a direction that keeps us moving forward.

The Rotary Club of Boise is proud to celebrate one of our own. At the Women’s and Children’s Alliance’s annual TWIN Awards luncheon, Boise Mayor Lauren McLean surprised Bea Black, past president of our club and longtime CEO of the WCA, with the Key to the City—Boise’s highest civic honor.
For more than 105 years, the Nampa Rotary Club has been a steady force for good—quietly, consistently, and creatively improving lives across Canyon County. As part of Rotary International, a global network founded in 1905 that now includes 45,000 chapters in 200 countries, the Nampa club embodies the organization’s mission of “service above self.”
Phones, laptops, e-toothbrushes, bluetooth speakers, cordless tools, e-dog collars - convenient rechargeable devices containing lithium-ion batteries are proliferating our lives. However, lithium-ion batteries can ignite if damaged or thrown in the trash. On the other hand, when properly recycled, 95% of the lithium and cobalt can be recovered, while building a new battery supply chain right here in the USA. Yet, only a small faction are recycled!
Rotary leaders from across the Treasure Valley recently gathered for an informal connection and idea-sharing session. Representatives from the Emmett, Boise Sunrise, Boise Downtown, Nampa, Boise Metro, Eagle Garden City, and Earth Action e‑Club came together to discuss shared challenges and exchange insights. The gathering was hosted at Loose Screw in downtown Meridian and highlighted the value of collaboration and fellowship within Rotary. Enjoy this collage of pictures of this great group!
After many years of inactivity, the Idaho Falls Rotary Club committed to reengage itself in International Service projects. So, when the Pocatello Rotary Club presented their project to provide drinking water for villages in Ghana at the 2022 Rotary District Conference in Sun Valley, we decided that we would offer our help in funding that venture.
The Rotary Club of Boise Sunrise has supported Hope House in Marsing, Idaho for over 20 years. HH is a residential school that focuses on children from failed adoptions. This organization was run by a single founder for over 50 years and in 2024, it became clear that a succession plan was a critical need.
In November and December 2025, clubs across District 5400 were invited to take part in a matching campaign to increase giving to The Rotary Foundation. The campaign offered a 1‑to‑1 match in recognition points for every dollar donated. Boise Sunrise proudly had more than 20 members participate, resulting in the recognition of 18 new Paul Harris Fellowship levels. Clubs interested in hosting a similar campaign are encouraged to contact the District Foundation Committee for more information.
The Rotary Club of Meridian Idaho has supported many D5400 Rotary Clubs in their local and global grants and fundraisers over the years. Now is your chance to support their first ever global grant!
District 5400 is accepting applications for Rotary Foundation District Grants for next year! We have $60,245 to distribute to clubs in the 2026-27 cycle. The deadline for application is June 1, 2026. A few things to remember:
The annual Epic of Day Service is a time of service where individual club-driven service activities may be supported and promoted by multiple clubs, across District 5400, and across the US. The mission of the Epic Day of Service is to unite Rotary clubs and their community members in service and amplify the incredible work of Rotary clubs and bring membership opportunities to the forefront.
